tighten its regulatory standards, stiffen its inspection program and strengthen its
e n f o rc e m e n t p o li c i e s . T h e fo o d i n d u s t ry s h o u l d m od ify
p r a c t i c e s o r t u r n t o l e s s h a z a r d o u s a l t e r n a t i v e s . P
consumers will have to do a better job of learning how to handle and cook food
p r o p e r l y. T h e p r o b l e m s t h a t n e e d t o b e t a c k l e d e x i s t a l l a l o n g t h e f o o d - s u
chain, from fields to processing plants to kitchens.
