  From the two pictures we can sense a crazy tendency of idol worship in today’s China. Star fans, the majority of whom are teenagers and young adults, are used to blindly following every aspect of celebrities’ behavior, accepting both positive and negative influences as universal truths. Aside from Beckham, another telling example is the nation-wide “Super-Girl competitions” held in past two years in China. They were so successful in drawing fans’ attention and emotions that the ups and downs of the “super girls” had almost constituted the whole lives of their frenetic followers.

  Admittedly, it is natural that those cool and fashionable stars seem attractive to the youth. Nevertheless, it is the responsibility of our government and society to guide young people in building a wholesome outlook towards the world and life. In my opinion, what’s most important is to have them adore worthy values and qualities, such as honesty, diligence, and persistence.

  The set of pictures present a distinguishable contrast of the role of the automobile over time: a century ago, people celebrated the invention of such rapid equipment for transportation, which could take us to wherever we want. Yet now, particularly in urban areas, the automobile is more of a trouble as its abundance results in frequent traffic jams. Drivers in the second picture even fall asleep when trapped in this “disaster”.

  Traffic jams have long been a problem that preoccupies many metropolitan cities such as New York, Tokyo, and Beijing. The harm and loss they cost are incalculable. First and foremost, they waste a huge amount of people’s time passed waiting idly in their cars. Secondly, cars in traffic jams produce more exhaust that exacerbates air pollution. Most importantly, a severe traffic jam might results in the dysfunction of a whole city, which can affect residents’ life as well as businesses and industries.

  In my opinion, it is an urgent task to reduce the frequency of traffic jams. The first step should be to change people’s lifestyles fundamentally so that the car is no longer part and parcel of their everyday life. Governments also need to apply attractive measures to draw citizens to adopt means of public transportation, for instance, to reduce prices and improve relevant facilities. In short, the cease of traffic jams will largely ameliorate life quality in cities.

  In this interesting cartoon, a retailer finds out the reason why sales in his store decrease: customers are too busy talking on their cell phones that they can only spare one hand to hold the stuff they bought. The picture vividly portrays the omnipresence of cell phones, which are playing an important role in our ordinary life.

  The popularity of cell phones is mushrooming towards every corner of the world. The advantages and convenience brought by cell phones are obvious. First of all, a portable phone immensely facilitates the communication among individuals, as it takes mere seconds to call any cell phone bearer regardless of his location. In front of the gate are two stone lions crying and hugging farewell, realizing their inevitable destiny of being destroyed. Besides, in the dust we can vaguely read a sign stating that the site was once deemed a municipal culture relic. 

  The picture sharply addresses the serious conflict of the conflict between urban development and the preservation of historical sites. The issue is especially controversial in China, where there exists rich history, diversified tradition and cultural deposits. Take Beijing as an example, the municipal government is still trapped in the dilemma between constructing more modern buildings and maintaining the prestigious courtyard houses.   It goes without saying that this picture aims at revealing a current problem: some organizations pose ridiculous conditions when recruiting new hires. In this drawing, a company is only willing to hire those who were born in the year of dog, a requirement that surprises and frightens many job applicants. Even a dog is wondering whether there is a higher possibility for it to be employed than a human.

  It seems to me that the artist is sending a message about the importance of a fair talent market which is currently absent in our society. Along with the economic development and rural reform, the Chinese society has come to pay increasing attention to the rich villages that are entitled as the models. However, just as the cartoon shows, in order to build a typical village, villagers are forced to bear heavy burdens in investing in magnificent building, instead of obtaining benefits for themselves.

Many reasons are responsible for such a trend. First of all, both the government and the villagers fail to consider the actual situations of the villages. They desire to show how beautiful and successful their villages look, thus wasting money on the unnecessary trifles. Besides, many rural leaders are obsessed with the competition with other villages, and they blindly reserve budgets for image constructions. The picture depicts a big lion standing before a gate named “medicine circulation”. In his mouth, he is swallowing “sales commission”. We can easily deduce that the picture describes the phenomenon of sales commission in the field of medicine. 

As a matter of fact, this phenomenon has become a serious problem in current society. It can be said with certainty that it is an “open secret” that most hospitals and doctors accept sales commissions. Sales commissions work as a bridge between hospitals and pharmaceutical factories or agents. To some degree, both sides reach an agreement, from which both sides benefit a lot from these deals. Yet the patients become the innocent victims. There is no denying that the sales commission is directly responsible for the general high price of medicine, which makes some patients even unable to afford to see doctors.

Sales commission is like a huge tumor of the society. The government has already taken pains to implement regulations but still fails to eliminate such deals.
