Happiness index as an eye-catching measurement has ranked all the nations to score the countries' happiness factors. Judging from the cultural value and traits, we can obtain the coincidence that what we consider the country where civilians have more pressure from their jobs has lower happiness index in the investigating from statistics. Biased and superficial seems the judgment made, but the trend could still be speculated through the numbers. I comprehensively combine different "rational" factors with "irrational" own feelings, concluding that job apparently has more effect on happiness than social life, reasons and examinations will be explored to break down the controversial issue.
Initially, the achievement from the work means a person has a great capability and they regard this kind of succeed in professions as the ultimate happiness in life. Many successful people are fully involved in their business, namely Steve Jobs, some of which even do not have the social life. However they feel much happiness because they can see their small company developing into a big one, just as their kids. For example, my father is a manager in a company. All his life is to work and he often work until midnight in order to sell more machines. Even though he was so tired and do not have a social life, he still feels happiness in the work and will work harder next year because the achievement from the work gives him a sense of accomplishment. He proved his value in the company. All of these mentioned above can be important factors that affect people’s happiness.
Moreover, when we really do a good job in the work, we can earn much more money. From the prospective of reality, the biggest motivation that people work is their salary because we can buy whatever we want with money and have a sense of satisfaction materially. Besides, we can guarantee our family a better life with more money so that they can be happier. As they are happier, why don’t we? For example, previously I did not work very hard on my job and I only earned a little money. I started to work much harder since I had a girlfriend because I wanted to give her a better life and buy whatever she want. Now my salary is five times more than that time. On the contrary, if we only get happiness in our social life but do not do very well in our vacation, what we get is something mentally, like some spiritual food. But in order to get the happiness, we should first satisfy our basic needs, like food, cloth and so on according to the Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. Therefore the vocational accomplishment weighs more than social life.
Finally, if we can keep a good relationship between our colleagues and boss in our job, we can also get happiness. When we have a harmonious interpersonal relationship, we can get much help from them as we are facing some difficulties so that we can be happy. At the same time, when they are in trouble we can give them a hand. Helping others and being helped are both beneficial for us and we will feel delightful in that process. In the long term, the mutual help among the colleagues can be virtuous circle. It is important for us to get along well with our workmates because we spend one third of our life time in working and living with them. Therefore, a good interpersonal relationship is advantageous in our working and provides us a good mood in the work.
In conclusion, I strongly agree that the job can offer us much more happiness than the social life for reasons mentioned above.
