Transaxle

 A transaxle is a transmission and a differential combined in a single assembly. Atransaxle is commonly used in late-model front-wheel-drive cars.

    A front-engine vehicle having a transaxle and front-wheel drive has several advantagesover a front-engine vehicle with rear-wheel drive：

    Reduced drive train weight and improved efficiency

    Improved traction on slippery pavement because of more weight on the drivewheels

    Increased passenger compartment space

    ·Smoother ride because of less unsprung weight（weight that must move withsuspension action)

    ·Quieter operation because engine and drive train noise is centrally located in theengine compartment (no transmission，drive shaft, and rear axle under passengercompartment)

    ·Improved safety because of increased mass in front of passengers
