　7. protect against，protect from 在防御意义上，它们的用法很微妙。当防备的是一实实在在所面临的事物时，用from;若防备的是一个理论上的可能会发生 (也可能不发生) 的事物时，用against。试比较：

　　(1) He raised his arm to protect his face from the blow.

　　(2) They have protected the warship against torpedoes.

　　句(1) 是针对他所面临的一击。句(2) 是针对的攻击还没有发生。再如，在保险业中表示投保意义时，用against，实际上也是针对某种可能的不利因素。
