　1.(be) out of control，(be) out of hand 两短语意思相近。be out of control侧重指 “失去对某人或某物的控制、管辖”;be out of hand 侧重指 “某人变得不受约束、不遵守约定纪律. 难以控制。” 试比较：

　　(1) The childlen were naughty and out of control at the party.

　　(2) The claas is out of hand now.

　　句(1)有 “孩子们很顽皮，大人看不住他们了” 的意思。句(2) 有“班上的学生闹哄哄的，不守纪律”的意思。

　　2.as far as ，as/so far as… is concerned as far as 作复合介词时仅用于表示距离。as far as…is concerned 的意思是whilewe are talking about…“就……而言” 是复杂从属连问，如 : As far as the weather is concerned ，I do not think it matters. “至于天气，我认为无关紧要。”as far as 或so far as ( 后者语句稍弱) 也可接其他从句 如：He is innocent as far as I know. “就我所知，他是无罪的。”

　　3.by means of，by all means，by no means 三者中除bymeans of 外其他都是副词短语。by means of 意思是 “通过”例见本词条。by all means 亦作by all manner of means， 意思是certainly “一定” 如：By all means must visit my sickfriend. “我一定得去探望生病的朋友。”by no means 亦作by no manner of means， 意思是certainly not “决不” 如：He is by no means brigbt. “他丝毫不聪明。'by means of，by way of 表示方式时，by means of 强调 “通过使用……”，by way of此意义较少用，经 “途经……” 转义而来，强调 “通过……的方法” 试比较：

　　(1) By means of monthly payments, people can buy more than in the past.

　　(2) We number the articles by way of distinguishing them.

　　句(1) 用by means of：表示 “人们通过利用每月支付的款项，可以买比过去更多的东西。”句(2) 用by way of 表示“我们通过给物品加以区分，给它们编了号。”
