Good afternoon, dear examiners. I am NO. 2. It's my great honor to have this opportunity to talk about my teaching ideas. My topic is unit 3 Understanding each other and my presentation consists of the following aspects-the analysis of the teaching materials, teaching students, teaching aims, key and difficult points, teaching methods teaching procedures and blackboard design. .
I. Analysis of the teaching materials
The first part in my presentation is the analysis of teaching material. This lesson is taken from Advance with English Student's Book 6 Unit3, the reading part. The main topic of this text is cultural differences. After this lesson, students will be able to obtain more knowledge about different cultures among different countries. Students can also get their reading and speaking ability improved.
II. Analysis of the students
Next, I will talk about the students. My students are in senior 2. They have learned many words and expressions but they don't know how to get the main idea and the detailed information of the reading passage quickly. Therefore, I will design more questions for them to improve their ability of global reading and detailed reading.
III. Analysis of the teaching aims
Based on the New Curriculum Standard and the analysis mentioned above, I set the teaching aims as follows:
Knowledge aim:
Students can master the expressions about cultural differences.
Students will get familiar with the topic of culture and learn how to talk about different cultures and customs.
Ability aims:
Students can master the reading strategy to understand the use of examples.
Students will be able to get the main subject of the conversation through fast reading and the detailed information through detailed reading.
Students can talk about cultural differences in their daily life.
Emotional aim:
Students will learn to respect different cultures and customs.
Students will be more confident in speaking English in public.
IV. Analysis of the key and difficult points
According to the teaching aims, the key and difficult points are set as follows:
Key points:
Students can get the detailed information through careful reading.
Difficult points :
Students can apply the expressions into daily communication.
Students can show respect for different cultures.
V. Analysis of teaching and study method
In order to help students have a better understanding of the reading text, I will mainly use task-based teaching method, muti-media method and so on. For students, I will lead them to study with autonomous and cooperative learning methods.
VI. Analysis of the teaching procedures
Now, let's move on to the most important part-the analysis of the teaching procedures. This part includes warming-up, pre-reading, while-reading and post-reading parts.
Step 1: Warming up
The first part is warming up. I will show some pictures of different wedding ceremonies in different countries and ask students to guess the country. The pictures are closely related to the topic of this lesson and will attract students' attention and lead students into the class naturally.
Step 2:Pre-reading
I will write the title of the reading passage on the blackboard and ask students to predict what aspects of cultural differences the passage involves. The way of prediction can arouse students' interest in this lesson by asking them to predict what the passage is mainly about and help students to have a basic understanding of the topic in the reading text.
Step 3:While-reading
As students' interest in the text is aroused, I will lead them to read the text twice. Thus, the reading part can be divided into two parts-global reading and careful reading.
1. Global reading
The first part is global reading. In this step, I will give students 5miutes to read the conversation quickly and find out the cultural differences the passage talks about. Later, I will invite ask some volunteers to share their answers. By global reading, students' skimming ability can be improved. Besides, this step can enable them to get the general idea of the passage as quickly as possible. After this step, students will know the cultural differences in this text include marriage, clothing, gestures and so on.
2. Detailed reading
Then comes the part of detailed reading. I will ask students to read the passage carefully with the following questions.
Q1: In the west, when is the polite rime to open a present? Why?
Q2:What surprised Peter about the wedding ceremony in Korea?
Q3: what drink is not permitted in Brunei?
Q4: What kind of food do Brits eat at Bonfire Night?
Then, I will ask some students to share their answers and check their answers together. This step can improve students' reading strategies of finding out the detailed information and understanding the use of examples. After this, students can have a overall understanding of the reading text. For example, they will know it's polite in the west to open the present when it's given.
Step 4:Post-reading
The next part is post-reading. I will divide students into groups of four and ask them to have a discussion about cultural difference in 7minutes. And the discussion should be related to the following questions.
Q1: What do you know about cultures that are different from your own?
Q2: Why do we need to find out about other cultures' traditions?
And during the discussion I will encourage my students to express their opinions. Then, I will invite some volunteers to share their opinions. During this step, students will not only build up more confidence in speaking English and sharing their opinions in public. But also broaden students' scope of knowledge and widen their horizon.
Step 5:Summary and Homework
By the end of the class, I will ask students to make a summary of what they have learned in this lesson and ask them to write an article after the class about how people can understand each other's cultures better. This step can Consolidate what they have learned in this class and improve their logic thinking ability.
