Step 3: Presentation (21mins):
(1) General reading (5mins):
Read the whole passage quickly and find the main idea
Q: What does it mainly talk about?
(Justification: help students understand this passage easily and improve their ability of fast reading).
(2) Careful reading (16mins):
a. Read the passage again and find the meaning of each paragraph.
(Justification: Train the students’ reading ability of scanning and summarizing for the general information of each paragraph)
b. Ask the students to read the passage carefully and de the exercise 2 on page 27.
(Justification: Train the students’ analytical ability to search the useful information fast)
c. Ask students to answer two questions.
Q1: Why was the earth different from the other planet?
Q2: Why is it wrong to show films with dinosaurs and people together?
Q3: What problem is caused by Human beings?
(Justification: Improve students’ reading skills for the detailed information help students understand the passage logically.)
Step 4: Consolidations, 12mins:
(1) Listen to the tape and then read this passage loudly in 5 minutes.
(Justification: Enhance students’ understanding of this passage.
(2)Play music of Michael Jackson and let students discuss that why Michael made this song and what we can do for our planet.
(Justification: Encourage students to go out from the book and have more chance to think about our real life. Students’ speaking and listening can be improved at the same time.)
Step 5: Summary & Homework, 5mins
(1)Teacher makes a summary that this class we learn a new passage about Lighting.
(2) After class, please search some information of other stars such as Venus, Uranus, Jupiter and so on, and then write an article to introduce it.
(Justification: Different from the traditional way of assigning homework, searching information can help students get more interest of science, it also combine English class with physic to meet the needs of syllabus. Students can get more knowledge after school).
