|||. Reading Comprehension (Questions 41 to 55)(每小题1分,共15分)
Directions: In this section, there are three passages. Passage A and Passage B are followed by some questions or unfinished statements. For each of them, there are four choices marked A,B, C, and D. You should choose the best answer. For Passage C, you are asked to put the five sentences marked A, B, C, D, and E into their right places.
A
The process of perceiving others is rarely translated(to ourselves or others) into cold, objective terms. "She was 5 feet 8 inches tall, had fair hair, and wore a colored skirt." More often,we try to get inside the other person to pinpoint his or her attitudes, emotions, motivations, abilities, ideas, and characters. Furthermore, we sometimes behave as if we can accomplish this difficult job very quickly--perhaps with a two-second glance.
We try to obtain information about others in many ways. Berger suggests several methods for reducing uncertainties about others; who are known to you so you can compare the observed person's behavior with the known others' behavior, observing a person in a situation where social behavior is relatively unrestrained or where a wide variety of behavioral responses are called for, deliberately structuring the physical or social environment so as to observe the person's responses to specific stimuli, asking people who have had or have frequent contact with the person about him or her, and using various strategies in face-to-face interaction to uncover information about another person--question, self-disclosures, and so on.
Getting to know someone is a never-ending task, largely because people are constantly changing and the methods we use to obtain information are often imprecise. You may have known someone for ten years and still know very little about him. If we accept the idea that we won't ever fully know another person, it enables us to deal more easily with those things that get in the way of accurate knowledge such as secrets and deceptions. It will also keep us from being too surprised or shocked by seemingly inconsistent behavior. Ironically, those things that keep us from knowing another person too well(e.g, secrets and deceptions) may be just as important to the development of a satisfying relationship as those things that enable us to obtain accurate knowledge about a person(e.g. disclosures and truthful statement).
41. According to the passage, if we perceive a person, we are likely to be interested in__________.
A. what he wears

D.we often have face.to.face conversation with him

Eat more healthily.Exercise twice a week.Read more books.Lose weight. We make the same resolutions every year, but most of us fail, and quit after only a few days or,at best, weeks.Even the most successful among us crash when it comes to personal change. For example,President Barack Obama struggles with his smoking habit.
So why is change so challen6ng?Are we wired in a way that keeps us from making changes? And do we need the support of others to reach our goal,or can we do it alone? Professionals who help people make change in their lives suggest that the change is determined not by one’s mind.Beginning with small goals ot steps usually leads to a bigger pay—off later, the),say. And trying to make a change is easier with support from a group of friends, family,or c0—workers with shared goals.
“People are more likely to make positive changes in their lives not only when their friends do,but when their friends of friends d0.and when their friends of friends of friends do,”said Nicholas Christakis,a professor of medical sociology at Harvard University.
Johnny Augustin understands that well. His resolution for 2009 was to reduce 30 pounds from his 237一pound frame. But the change didn’t come easy.He said,“l’m a huge procrastinator.
There’s desire, but I just kept putting it off.I didn’t get to it until the sumlner.”However Augustin got inspired when he saw his elder brother working out.Now Augustin weighs 190 pounds.
Having a positive attitude is one of the keys to nmking a successful change.according to Judy Zerafa, author of several books based on how people can improve their lives. She emphasizes the importance of believing in yourself--and having positive habits,a creative imagination, and persistence--to make change happen.

When do people decide whether or not they want to become friends? During their first four minutes together, according to a book by Dr. Leonard Zunin. In his book, "Contact: The first four minutes," he offers this advice to anyone interested in starting new friendships: "(51 ) __________A lot of people's whole lives would change if they did just that."
You may have noticed that average person does not give his undivided attention to someone he as just met. (52)__________If anyone has ever done this to you, you probably did not like him very much.
When we are introduced to new people, the author suggests, we should try to appear friendly and self-confident. In general, he says, "People like people who like themselves."
On the other hand, we should not make the other person think we are too sure of ourselves.Hearing such advice, one might say, "But I'm not a friendly, self-confident person. That's not my nature."
(53)__________We can become accustomed to any changes we choose to make in our
personality."It is like getting used to a new car. It may be unfamiliar at first, but it goes much better than the old one."
But isn't it dishonest to give the appearance of friendly self-confidence when we don't actually feel that way? Perhaps, but according to Dr. Zunin, "total honest" is not always good for social relationships, especially during the first few minutes of contact. There is a time for everything, and a certain amount of play-acting may be best for the first few minutes of contact with a stranger. That is not the time to complain about one's health or to mention faults one finds in other people. It is not the time to tell the whole truth about one's opinions and impressions.
(54) __________For a husband and wife or a parent and child, problems often arise during their first four minutes together after they have been apart. Dr. Zunin suggests that these first few minutes together be treated with care. If there are unpleasant matters to be discussed, they should be dealt with later.
The author says that interpersonal relations should be taught as a required course in every school, along with reading, writing, and mathematics.(55)__________ that is at least as important as how much we know.
A. In reply, Dr. Zunin would claim that a little practice can help us feel comfortable about changing our social habits.
B. Much of what has been said about strangers also applies to relationships with family members and friends.
C. In his opinion, success in life depends mainly on how we get along with other people.
D. Every time you meet someone in a social situation, give him your undivided attention for four minutes.
E. He keeps looking over the other person's shoulder, as if hoping to find someone more interesting in another part of the room.

My View on Learner-Centered Teaching Approach
Recently it is widely argued whether English teaching should turn teacher-centered teaching approach to learner-centered teaching approach and let students develop the main role, which is required by English curriculum standard. As far as I am concerned, learner-centered teaching approach is a more effective methodology which highly embolden students to express their own opinions in class.
Teachers should carry out this teaching approach in the daily teaching. Firstly, more initiative should be given to students in classroom, so as to urge them to think independently and willingly. Secondly, students were presented with a menu of assignment options at the beginning of the course, and the teaching target is to arouse the enthusiasm and develop the hnguistic competence of students in the process of accomplishing the assignment. Thirdly, the role of teachers should be changed to arouse students' learning motivation and help students find the rule of language by practice.
To sum up, learner-centered teaching approach is a significant methodology which should be adopted during English teaching.
